We’re incredibly proud of two of our own, Mark Box, M.D., FACP and Katie Taylor, CRH-C, CMPM, CRMS of Carondelet Rheumatology, following their recent trip to Capitol Hill to advocate on behalf of the Autoimmune Association.
The Autoimmune Association serves as a vital resource for patients living with autoimmune diseases across multiple specialties. During the organization’s Third Annual Hill Day, patient advocates invited Dr. Box and Katie to join them in Washington, D.C.
Over the course of just 36 hours, they participated in four event sessions, nine congressional meetings, and even navigated two disrupted flights!
“It was a busy few days, but it was a privilege to advocate alongside patients,” Katie shared. “Our efforts were very well received on the Hill.”
Dr. Box, a longtime advocate for autoimmune patients, emphasized the importance of having a voice in policy discussions: “If you are not at the table, you are on the menu. Throughout my career, I have advocated to ensure patients maintain access to the most appropriate treatments. Autoimmune disorders are complex and costly to diagnose and treat, and I am committed to ensuring insurance barriers do not stand in the way of necessary care.”
During their visit, they also had the opportunity to meet with Representative Sharice Davids of Kansas’s 3rd Congressional District.
We are so grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside our patients and fight for improved access to care! +
