JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for providing professional care for clinic patients and conveying a positive image of clinic. Provides assistance to the clinical team during clinical hours.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; assisting physicians/medical secretaries with various procedures; relaying instructions to patients/families.
Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned which may include: obtaining lab/x-ray reports and/or hospital notes; completing forms/requisitions as needed; documents and charts to ensure complete and accurate information, including CPT and ICD-10 codes, and modifiers
Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
Enters information into the practice electronic medical record system including medical history obtained from patient, CPT, modifiers and ICD10 codes as indicated by the clinical team.
Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned, which may include: ensuring privacy, security and OSHA compliance, respecting/promoting patient rights; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors quickly.
EDUCATION: Medical Assisting certificate
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one-year work experience in a clinical setting.
- Knowledge of health care field.
- Knowledge of medical record requirements, including confidentiality and security
- Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
- Skill in appropriate use of confidentiality methods.
- Skill in using a computer
- Skill with attention to detail, correct grammar and spelling
- Skill in understanding of patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.

Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Well-lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to clinic setting.
Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, dressing, etc. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds of supplies.
