About
Matthew Mackay, MD is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine physician practicing in Overland Park, Kansas.
Dr. Mackay has a primary interest in sports medicine with a special interest in arthroscopic and open treatment of knee and shoulder pathology. Originally from Amarillo, Texas, he earned his undergraduate degree at Baylor University and his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He then went on to complete a residency in orthopedic surgery at The University of Kansas Health System.
Dr. Mackay completed his sports medicine fellowship at University Health and with the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Clinic of Kansas City. During this time, he honed his expertise on arthroscopic and open treatment of knee and shoulder pathologies, as well as other general sports medicine treatments. Throughout his training, he has contributed to the overall sports medicine knowledge base through research and publications ranging from basic science research on cartilage to various systematic reviews, all of which have contributed to his knowledge of complex conditions encountered in orthopedics.
He performs all aspects of general orthopedics for patients 12 years of age and older. From adolescents to geriatrics and elite athletes to weekend warriors, Dr. Mackay's goal is to provide premiere operative and non-operative options for patients to return to the activities they enjoy, as quickly as possible.
