Kansas City orthopedic surgeonsThree of our Kansas City orthopedic surgeons from Carondelet Orthopaedic Surgeons joined a group from Village Presbyterian church on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic where they partnered in providing medical services with Good Samaritan Hospital located in Jimani.

Their travels lasted from February 6 through February 13. During this time frame, the group of 32 individuals (Doctors, nurses, and other missionaries) provided medical assistance to 500 people living in bateyes (essentially small villages of Haitian cane cutters) as well as performed 37 surgeries. Our participating providers included Dr. David Clymer, Dr. Scott Luallin, and NP Angel Monroy.

Back in the hospital, our surgeons worked alongside local physicians and staff providing medical skills and expertise in the Operating Room as well as educating and guiding the local staff in new procedures. Far fewer resources were available than what can be found in our local OR's, but they made due with what was readily available, even finding uses for zip ties as stabilizers.
