Independence Women's Clinic is pleased to welcome Clayton Southern, MD, and Emily Martinez, CNM, to the practice.
Dr. Clayton Southern is a Missouri native and grew up south of St. Louis. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology at The University of Alabama before completing medical school at the St. Louis University School of Medicine. Dr. Southern went on to complete his residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology with Prisma Health Upstate in Greenville, SC.
Dr. Southern is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist. He is fluent in Spanish and enjoys providing care to patients from diverse backgrounds. Outside of medicine he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, woodworking, running, and playing golf.
Emily Martinez was raised in Independence, Missouri. She graduated with her Bachelor of Science In Nursing In 2012 from Graceland University. During her time as a labor and delivery nurse, she received her certification in inpatient obstetrics and became an internationally board-certified lactation consultant. She became a certified nurse-midwife after graduating from the University of Kansas Medical Center's School of Nursing in 2021 with her Doctorate in Nursing Practice. She is passionate about caring for patients with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and providing lactation support to postpartum patients.
Emily's biggest joy is her family, immediate and extended. She is married with three children and has one dog. She enjoys traveling, spending time with friends & family, and nearly anything outdoors including biking, hiking, and running.
