Dr. Shelly Meents Earns Top Hospital Award

Meents-ShellyA hospital in Bolivar, Mo., has recognized a Signature Medical Group doctor as a unique friend and supporter of the healthcare facility.

Dr. D. Shelly Meents of Bolivar OB/GYN was one of five recipients of the 2017 Donald J. Babb award at Citizens Memorial Hospital's 14th annual Burgundy Ball on Sept. 16 in Bolivar. Babb serves as CEO and executive director of the hospital.

Dr. D. Shelly Meents, M.D., is a board-certified specialist in obstetrics and gynecology. She joined the Citizens Memorial Hospital medical staff in 2005, and is a specialty practice provider of obstetrics and gynecology and women’s health services at Bolivar OB/GYN, a division of Signature Medical Group.

Meents earned her medical degree at St. Louis University School of Medicine and completed an internship and residency at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, St. Louis. Prior to moving to Bolivar, Meents had a private obstetrics and gynecology medical practice in St. Louis.

An active member of the CMH medical staff, Meents has served as chief of staff and on the medical executive committee. She also has been the chairperson of the peer review committee and the surgical steering committee as well as an obstetrics physician advisor.

Meents is a member of the Citizens Memorial Health Care Foundation Board of Directors and lends her medical insight to the board. She is also a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Medical Association.

Meents was recognized in 2016 by Springfield Business Journal as one of the Most Influential Women in southwest Missouri. She also has been named a 417 Magazine “Top Doc” each year since its inception.

Dr. Meents also has been instrumental in aiding Signature’s Maternity Care Home. That program provides comprehensive prenatal care by addressing the stressors that can impact the physical well-being for moms and their babies.

Dr. Meents and the clinical team at Bolivar OB/GYN are committed to leading the transformation in the way prenatal care is delivered by integrating Kim Choate, a Master's- prepared social worker, into the program.

"I thought I knew my patients but now that we have Kim, I really know my patients and their needs," Dr. Meents says.
