I'm Dr. John Powell, I practice with Signature Orthopedics in St. Charles County and my practice focuses primarily on joint replacement surgery.

I enjoy interacting with patients; hearing what their problems are, trying to inform the patients so that they can make the best decision for themselves. There's a saying in medicine, “It's more important to know what type of patient has the disease than what disease the patient has." So I try to individualize the treatment based upon what the patient is looking for and taking many factors into consideration.

I think the most important thing in the doctor-patient relationship is the doctor looking out for what's best for the patient. I try to explain all the options to the patient and treat them like I would want to be treated.

It's always better to start with more conservative treatment. There's very few orthopedic conditions that require immediate surgery which is a good thing for both the patient and the physician.

Our practice prides itself on high quality work; easy access. Most people can get in within 24 hours of calling our office for their appointment. We're on staff at all 4 hospitals in St. Charles County and being independent physicians we're able to provide care at the patient's choice of institution.

"I became an orthopedic surgeon because it is very rewarding to help a person maintain or regain his or her activity level. Fixing a fracture, replacing an arthritic joint, or reconstructing a torn ligament are examples of procedures I perform that help people stay active."
