About
Dr. Schuval is one of only two physicians who has been in St. Louis for more than 25 years with a specialty practice in Colon & Rectal surgery. Dr. Schuval did his medical training in Upstate New York and in New York City. He then took on advanced training with a fellowship in Colon and Rectal Surgery. Dr. Schuval is Board Certified in both Colorectal and General Surgery and is a fellow of both the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and American College of Surgeons. He is currently the Director of the Department of Surgery, at St. Anthony’s Medical Center/Mercy, a position he previously held for 5+ years. During the years in between his tenure as Surgery Director, he continued to serve on the Medical Executive Committee as Treasurer as well as Secretary. Dr. Schuval has held numerous physician leadership positions at SAMC/Mercy since the early 1990s. Dr. Schuval is especially proud to have served as President of the St. Louis Surgical Society (the oldest medical society west of the Mississippi) in 2011 and has been named one of St. Louis Magazine’s Best Doctors six years in a row.
